This is the humorous and touching love story of Ethel and Norman Thayer, who are returning to their summer home on Golden Pond for the forty-fourth year. He is a retired professor, nearing eighty, but still as tart-tongued, and eager for life as ever. Ethel, ten years younger, delights in all the small things that have enriched their long life together. They are visited by their daughter and her fiancé, who then go off to Europe, leaving his teenage son behind for the summer. Inspired by the boy’s youth and new friendship, Norman and Ethel forge ahead with a new spirit.

Here is a funny, thought-provoking, entertaining evening of theater and the title story is the first act of the play. Five Nickels introduces us to Ed Maloney, 60, single and shy. He's a Catholic usher and, on this particular Sunday, he is confronted by Catherine Barber, a 50-year old widow who, after weeks of holding back, has finally determined to confront this lifelong bachelor with her true feelings. Act Two consists of four different stories that range from touching to hilarious. ( We suggest PG 13.)
